Stain painting

Not seen this done before, very clever and (I think) effective. Any budding artists among us who fancy giving it a go?

Me too John, though the general idea could have merit in perhaps other ways.

I must admit that when I first saw it, I thought that the overall effect was a bit brash, but as you say Pete, it's a technique that could well be used to our own advantage. It would be interesting to see a close-up of some details of the finished image, just to see how the artist coped with the usual problem of the stain bleeding into areas that it wasn't meant to run into....especially around the margins of some of the petals where there appears to be a strong contrast.

Education is important, but wood turning is importanter.

Yes Les, not sure how she has stopped the bleed through.

She doesn't, she uses the bleeding to create a graduated effect by putting the stain on thick at the middle and leaving it to bleed, wiping it off from the centre after a few minutes. If you go to the site she has some tutorials on how she does it.
