Autumn Winds
« on: September 06, 2015, 09:50:04 PM »

Been working on this piece for sometime now , it was  a oak burr base originally in white then black and a few shades in between.
was not happy  with it so came in with a different thought... The base is now corian ... The H/F is Oak and as always turned by Tony... the leaves
finial and Snail are pewter cast by Tony and Decorated by me.
As Always Your Comments Are Most Welcome

As with all your work Tony this will be well made and well finished I don't know why but it does not grab me somehow.
Too many elements maybe or the finial I am not sure.

Regards George

Hi Tony & Di,

Can you tell us a little more about the finish on the burr oak h/f. I turn quite a bit of burr oak and can't guess what finish you've used so come up with the rich colour and texture.

Like others I'm not sure about the "Bugs Bunny" finials, to me they look a little large for the h/f.

Thanks for sharing.

Cheers
Rick

Thank You  Rick..... The oak burr has been burnt and then brushed....  it was then painted and blended with a mixture of

acrylic paints. The finial was meant to be flames..... it has been engraved then painted with orange paint
to hopefully blend with the H/F
   Hope this helps
   Kind Regards

When I opened this page to see this for the first time, the only part of the image that was visible was the tops of the flames.....I thought that you were showing us a new twist on the magician's rabbit-in-a-hat, but having scrolled down to see the whole picture, I see that it's a hare.

On a more serious note.....I like it all, except the finial. The snail and the leaves are lifelike, exactly as we might imagine them, but the finial is much less distinct and leaves me wondering what it is.

What's up doc?Tony and Di. ;D ;D ;D ;D
I like this apart from the finial, and after reading your description I know why, flames should be a bit pointier (?) if you know what I mean?
I think the whole concept is good and knowing your work I am sure the quality is there.
Sorry I missed you at the show, I was there on the Friday.
Hope you are both keeping well.

I like the composition Toni & Di
The finial I immediately (given your title) saw as either ash or sycamore seeds spiralling down in a zephyr wind. I did not know they were orange and unfortunately that thought spoilt it for me.
but overall thumbs up

Thank You John ( BHT ) For Elf and Safety reasons we did not put a point on the top of the finial, I might have hurt myself
and then I would be in trouble with the safety officer ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D I would also have to make a claim from Tony and he`s
   got very deep pockets.

Sorry we missed you on Friday we arrived quite late in the afternoon, think most folks had gone home
It would have been nice to catch up and have a chat.
 Kind Regards

This I like a lot more. Everything works on it for me, colour, slight rustic look of the form and the 'finial' snail etc all work together.
