Pablo Nemzoff Collaboration/ Sense
« on: August 04, 2015, 03:12:21 PM »
Hi All

This is a piece I have been working on for the Pablo Nemzoff collaboration of which I was proud to be invited to take part in. The piece here is inspired by Japanese incense urns. The stand was made from the pieces cut away from the vase I received. The finish on the main form is textured/verdigris with the base being textured and coloured with acrylics. It is titled 'Sense'

Thanks for looking.

I'd say this piece fully justifies why you were invited. Perfection of the imperfection, aka wabi sabi.

John, wabi-sabi is a concept from Japanese philosophy and expresses an idea of beauty that is "imperfect, impermanent, and incomplete" (to quote https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wabi-sabi). This includes an element of sadness that perfection cannot be achieved, however much we strive and nothing in this world lasts forever.

I think that Mark's piece embodies this thinking just about as good as it gets.

An excellent looking piece Mark, and so well photographed.

I have learnt the first rule of woodturning.
The internal diameter should never exceed the external width.
Nor the internal depth, the external height.
Does that make me an expert now ?

Love this Mark, even more so knowing that you had to make it from a piece that was already part made, that takes skill. very impressive and the photo is rather impressive as well.

Hi all

Thank you very much for your kind words. Every now and then I connect with a piece and really get into it, as I was privileged to be given a piece of the late Pablo Nemzoff I felt I owed it to give it my all and put as much feeling into the piece as I could and I hope I have done it justice. Hopefully someone will buy it at the auction and add some more funds to the development fund.

A couple of days ago I thought I had caught up and was flying, then this morning I realised how much more I have to do before the seminar. The candles have been burning at both ends and there are only a few left in the box, what it must be like for those organising I can only imagine  :)

Back to work.  :)

Thank you. It is a subject I have been interesting in for many years and every now and again revisit.

And I though power point would be easy. Just as well my 14 yr old daughter was taught how to use it at school, kinda make me feel I am losing touch with technology.  ::) ::)
