This is my take on the Gilded Vase technique Ed showed us a couple of months ago.

It's Sycamore and stands 220mm high by 120mm at the widest point.

Ed I liked yours so much I just had to have a go, hope it meets your approval.

Of course C&C most welcome.

It is an inescapable fact, that making a random pattern is a darned side harder than making a regular, repeating pattern, and the fact that the randomness of this is so uniform (does that make sense) is testimony to how well it has been done. The finish on the sycamore is no less than we'd expect from Bryan, but equally impressive is the luster on the  black and gold.
A great piece, Bryan, and a great nod to Ed's lead.

Education is important, but wood turning is importanter.

First class I love it, I think the clean line top and bottom set the piece off well

All the best

Love the contrasts. Thats a real 'stop and looker'

I have learnt the first rule of woodturning.
The internal diameter should never exceed the external width.
Nor the internal depth, the external height.
Does that make me an expert now ?

Thanks Guy's.

I really enjoyed making this and it has received a few interesting comments from people who have held it as well.

Les, your comment makes perfect sense, but I'd add it makes your wrist ache, having to keep squeezing the trigger on the Hot Glue gun to keep the flow going.

Hi dr4g0nfly

Nice to see some of your work on here again.  Of all your recent postings in the gallery this one stands out best for me.  I love the shape of the vase and the black/gold stand out really well on sycamore.

A great piece

All the best

David

I keep looking at your pot and I think the design looks better than mine I'll have to have another go when I finish what I'm currently working on :)

David (Greenman),

Thank you for you comment, you make me feel guilty I don't post more. I have something in the workshop I finished turning yesterday, guess I'd better take its picture and post it later.

David (Wooden design),

Thank you, one of my standard vases I normally colour that got experimented on. Glad you think it worked.

Ed,

Next time I might just do a feature area like you. I said above my wrist was aching with the time it took to drizzle glue all over almost the whole thing. As for the shape, the form of your work improves with each posting, you eye is starting to see when the curve is right, now its just practice.

And remembering you post where you've tempted us, I'm looking forward to seeing what you have been working on.

The contrast of the Black / Gold Texture on the light Sycamore has a great deal of impact,
A very striking well finished Piece
