« on: April 18, 2015, 03:05:27 PM »
does anyone know where i can get a thread extension for an m33 3.5 thread as i wish to do some deep bowls and could use the extra reach to hold the inside whilst i turn the underside.

I have learnt the first rule of woodturning.
The internal diameter should never exceed the external width.
Nor the internal depth, the external height.
Does that make me an expert now ?

Steve,
Try the Toolpost at Didcot, if Peter hasn't got one he may know someone who has or be able to suggest an alternative method.

Steve

That's not a bad price for something like that.

You could contact a local engineering workshop, and ask them to make one up for you.

I got a guy to re-thread a old Multistar chuck body for me and make an adaptor for another Multistar body and I think that cost about 60.00 but the adaptor was nowhere near as meaty as the one your looking at.

Oh, I get it, I think.
Could you not turn a wooden mushroom type thing to go in the chuck. A sort of a jam check ?

...like this, Graham/Steve....I turned this mushroom (Dolly?) many moons ago and each time I re-use it, I just skim the face to true it up.....it works a treat for reversing deep bowls, especially natural edged ones that won't mount any other way.

Education is important, but wood turning is importanter.
