I tried once and found it splintered like crazy. There are a number of different types however so maybe some can be turned. The outer skin can be partially tuned but get beyond that and it complains. Be careful if you do as the piece I tried had long, sharp splinters that were like needles.

Thanks Pete

I'm not planning on turning any, I just wondered if it was tunable.

Ed...as I recall, Andy Coates turned a trinket box in the shape of a ginger jar out of laminated bamboo, but it was many months ago, possibly over a year. It's very popular in the states for making laminated bamboo beams for structural purposes....seems it has high resistance to snapping. Over there, they refer to the laminated stuff as 'Lamboo'

Education is important, but wood turning is importanter.

Like Les, I've seen laminated Bamboo made into things but not turned it. All I can think of is Chop Sticks.

I have used it though, if you think back to the ewer I made, it had a handle made from Giant bamboo.

I believe Andy used laminated bamboo garden posts and turned to a nice finish but was hard on the tools that needed sharpening regular.

Cheers Martin.

Bamboo can be used to turn items. Check out MOSO Bamboo they had a lot of turned items from bamboo on their stand at 100% Design.

MOSO will also supply blanks to size if you ask them nicely!

Certainly does Woody.

I have learnt the first rule of woodturning.
The internal diameter should never exceed the external width.
Nor the internal depth, the external height.
Does that make me an expert now ?
