Deep hole drill
« on: November 20, 2014, 05:57:55 PM »
I wish to buy a new deep hole drill but do not wish to buy a shell auger. Who is it that makes the twist drill mounted on a slimmer stem with a handle ?
And who sells them?
Many thanks
john

I've never seen one, you could always use a standard drill bit welded to a metal rod and if you ask nicely someone might turn you a handle  :) :) :) :) :) :) :)

Is what you mean called a Blacksmiths drill? These are available from Axminster, and other suppliers. if not long enough you could use an bit extension. Malcolm.

Ed that is the sort of thing I am after but commercially made. I dare say with a bit of practice I could make my own handle ;D ;D

When I'm in the office tomorrow I phone around our tooling suppliers to see if anyone knows who makes something like this and let you know.

Axminster do the Evolution system which sounds like what you want.   It is a bit expensive but I will be buying it before I do any more long hole boring.

I forgot to say I want one of the tail stock bits as well.   If it works as well as they say and the demo shows it will save a lot of hassle and time.

I think the new Axminster deep hole drill will work better than the shell auger I have, worth the extra expense by the look of it.
