Andromeda
« on: November 04, 2014, 12:46:37 PM »

A bit of R&R.......I have been playing with this for a good few weeks now ........Adding a bit here and taking a bit off there
The hardest part was the photo its been over a week now and finally managed to get some decent shots too much gloss
     I think.
As always your comments are welcome.

Thank You David......Must have had a bus pass moment.....I spent a couple of days searching through Tony`s wood shed
( lots of spiders in there ) and finally found what I was looking for.......The Woods used are
N/E Olive Burr......N/e Horse Chestnut Burr.......N/E Maple Burr......and to top it N/E Pine Burr.
The Length is 19"...and its 12" at its widest point.
    Thank You Di & Tony.

Thank You Pete......No Acrylics this time.....Its my first time at using Stains as I wanted the grain in all the woods to show through
Its usually a joint effort I mix and Tony applies. This time I mixed and applied. I used Chestnut Spirit Stains and finished with a Melamine
Spray.  If I do anything like this again though I`ll photo it first then put the finish on :) :)
  Thank`s Di & Tony

What a cosmic effort...high on individuality, as we've come to expect from your work. I love the idea that one has to gaze at it for ages to understand it.

p.s. ... having a second look, I just spotted Tony's fried egg ;)

I'm still gazing.

I have learnt the first rule of woodturning.
The internal diameter should never exceed the external width.
Nor the internal depth, the external height.
Does that make me an expert now ?

Have all the puns been used up - nah, not quite...

What a nebulus effect you've created there (had to work for that one), the grain shining through the stains bring this to life.

I can see you've created a star in the centre, if I may, a nebula is the birthplace of stars, it might be able to take a few small shinies as birthing stars scattered around it.

As ever, something completely different and amazing to look at, you never fail to amaze. Thanks for posting.

Hi, Di and Tony,
I have had several looks at this piece over the past two days and struggle to make my mind up if I like it.
I am a fan of colouring and do quite a few myself but this has so much going on I find it hard to concentrate on it as a form/ or artistic item.
The colours are striking which I like but for me the shape/form is not for me.
Sorry if this feels negative but I do like your previous works seen on the forum.
Regards
Ken.
