Smocks/Coats/Jackets
« on: October 29, 2014, 08:22:22 AM »
Hi Guys and Gals,

I have noticed that in a lot of your profile pictures you are wearing Cream coloured Smocks?
I am looking for something to wear while turning to stop having to shake shaving out of well everything.
Where is best to buy them and what am I looking for?

Thanks in Advance Ryan.

Try Lovells in Cardiff. Web address is lovellsworkwear.co.uk. That's where I got mine from and you can have your name embroidered on it too. Malcolm.

I think most of us who use smocks get them from here
http://www.lovellworkwear.com/smocks.html
They are good and very reasonably priced. They also go around many of the shows and turning events where you can sometimes get them over the counter as it were.

I have learnt the first rule of woodturning.
The internal diameter should never exceed the external width.
Nor the internal depth, the external height.
Does that make me an expert now ?

I thought about joining but I'm pretty much a recluse so clubs and meetings aren't really my thing.

I'll see about joining on the weekend though the other benefits might be worth it. :)

Even if you don't join the AWGB you can ask them to put your name or some other words on the jacket for you.

Having my name on the smock helps my wife remember who I am.

I'll be getting one of these.

It should stop me finding shaving in places I'd rather not have shavings.

Thanks for the advise guys once again you've proven very helpful.

I really like mine to but I would like it even more if it were short sleeved. Not fond of the long sleeves and cuffs.

Graham,

There is answer to the short sleeve issue, other than taking a pair of scissors to the smock.

Checkout the AAW site as they sell short sleeve smocks- they are really good, I have one.
their website is www.woodturner.org and thr online store is: https://aaw.site-ym.com/store/default.aspx?

Postage from the US won;t be that much but if you have a problem email the office in St. Pauls and speak to Linda Ferber.

If you are not a club person Ryan just think about joining the AWGB the benefits far outway the cost.
