2 saved pieces
« on: June 03, 2014, 02:07:38 PM »
Hi All,
Saved 2 pieces this week that the turner (me) had accidently ploughed through.
Plate 1 is Horse Chestnut with a Meranti saver.
Plate 2 is Sycamore with a Sapele saver.

Don, it happens, nicely saved, you'd taken to use the timbers at hand, may not have been the best choice, yet it works, one consideration is the difference in timbers and with the grain alignment, the timbers are no doubt well seasoned and shouldn't move, but any movement could crack the bowls/joints.

I love this sort of thing. Who would have ever know it was done from necessity  :)

I have learnt the first rule of woodturning.
The internal diameter should never exceed the external width.
Nor the internal depth, the external height.
Does that make me an expert now ?

Good saves. I've only done this once when I went through a platter, but it is satisfying to save a piece that went wrong. Malcolm.

Don,

I think if you hadn't told us they were saves we'd never have guessed. Good save and nice looking pieces out of it.

(Now if only the England goalkeeper can do as well!)

I love this expression. Turners never make mistakes they just give themselves design opportunities  :)

Don you are not the first and certainly won't be the last to do this, I dare say virtually everyone on this forum has turned through the bottom at sometime. not all of us will have saved it so nicely, well done.
Byran let's try to keep this a football free zone  >:(
