Hello Roderick,
I don't know what Tony uses I was recommended to use the "Veritas Thickness Calipers" from Clasic Hand Tools I have found them very good have a look on their Web site.
                                               Regards John

Hi John
Thanks for the information, had a look at the website, they're a bit pricey but look as if they might just do the job.
Regards
Roderick

Very nice squat form indeed !, they are not easy at all . It looks like you must have rough turned this from green , and then re-turned it , or the outside at least , are the three grooves for ornamentation or has this been cut open and re-joined ? Nice touch with the pewter , they look like acorns from what I can see which is spot on for an Oak piece  .  Keep it up !  ....  Terry ...

Tony,

thanks for the picture of the tools, I modify old chisels and screwdrivers from car boot sales etc., so it's always interesting to see how and what other people do to achieve the same ends.

Hi Tony,
Thanks for the photo of the tools.
The calipers on the left seem a lot shallower than the Veritas to reach into a shallower type form
Must have a go at making one, many thanks again,
Roderick

Tony, I'm looking ... given the tools used, is it even possible, you part hollow, it is a wide opening, remove that section, had to be a thin slice, hollow the rest out, replace the section and hide, and it's a good one, with the inner ring of the three, hard to have done with the burr... then am I just making it hard work ..  :D ..

It's one beautiful piece, the eggcorns and leaf crown it.

Cheers  David
