Hello Tony,
I think this Oak Burr H.F. is great I also love your idea of the Pewter casting I see you have now got yourself a photographic tent one thing I would question is what lighting are you using I am no expert on photography but the first picture looks a different colour. This is not a criticism
of your work just how the colour is different.

                                                            Regards John

ee eckythump John I have been soooo stressed out trying to put these on for Tony I really don't know what I do but things post
before they should and I carnt get them back or the photos disappear anyway 2 coffees later I will try again.
The H/F is 5mm thick the width is 40cm and the hight is 6cm.
The first photo was taken this evening with 2 side lights and room light
The second photo was taken this afternoon so I just used natural light and looks very washed out
But I don't know were the other photo is (it was really very nice)
     Must try harder.
                         Kind Regards  Diane and Tony

I just like everything about this HF. I used to be a bit stuck in the '...what purpose does it serve?' mind-set, but this forum has taught me to look beyond the functional, and here's a piece that does that so well. I guess that if a piece is going to be purely aesthetic, then it really needs to be darned good looking for it to work, and this certainly is that!
I'm intrigued by the shape, by what extent it's been hollowed to, and by how it breaks so many stereotypes of form for HFs, yet it works so well. A blinking lovely piece.

Thank You Les for such a positive insight to the piece.  The shape comes from (you know who ) When she asked me to make
her a very flat based decanter, I have used the same idea on a few other pieces and its one I enjoy turning.
Its a pity that the pictures did not turn out very well the box itself is white so were all the orange came from not sure.
     any ideas.
                              Regards TONY

Thank You Pete for your kind comment much appreciated

Hi Diane and Tony,
As I said in a previous post lighting I think it could be the type of bulb you are using I have heard members talk about day light bulbs.

                                                             Regards John

Tony,

Stunning.

To pick up on another's comment and you partial answer. Just how do you hollow out that far?

Do you make your own specialised tools or do you use something commercially available please.

And if you make your own, any chance of a photo (or two) of them please.

Tony

you need something like these for your lighting http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Ex-Pro-Photographic-Pro180-Midi-Day-Light-Continuous-Lighting-Kit-Tents-Cubes-/331126939680?pt=UK_Photography_Lighting_Units&hash=item4d18b42020

I have three website and we take a lot of pictures for the sites and we have a a couple of tents with lighting like this our are triple lamp day light bulbs, but three singles would work well to give you the right light and take out any shadow.

Hi Tony
Lovely piece of Oak burr, super finish. The pewter acorns add the finishing touch to this fine example of your work.
I would love to know what you use to measure and obtain an even wall thickness on this type of form, I haven't come up with anything yet.
Regards,
Roderick
