Bards and Druids are a part of Welsh culture and the Oak tree is of great significance as the Druids carried out their ceremonies under an Oak tree. The carved band on this bowl is representative of this. The bowl is turned from Sapele 9"dia x 4"high, textured and coloured with a copper patina coating whilst the carved band of oak leaves and acorns are coloured with acrylics. Comments and critiques welcome.

Gwilym, Your usual quality and stunning work, Sapele ... not Oak .. which would add to the potent mix of the day.

Cheers  David

It should have been oak David but it's not the best for carving.

Best use I've ever seen of Sapele, another of those dusty mahogany woods.

The carving and colour effects bring it to life for me. And I like the idea of the beaten copper effect.

Oak, maybe in a truly traditional bowl, but it would not have had colour in that case either so I think that can well be forgiven.

Oh Lord, Lead me not into temptation…

Hi Gwilym...I'm not a great fan of the mahogany-type woods, but this bowl is a great example of a use for it. Love the design - such patience!

thanks...Les
Education is important, but wood turning is importanter.
