Treatex HardWax Oil

Hi I have done some turning today for the first time in Months. I turned a small vase in Ash. Last weekend I bought some Treatex Hardwax oil at Woodex Daventry. Has any one used this on their turnings if so what was the method you used did you use sanding sealer? how many coats of Hardwax did you use? and did you put a paste wax or renaissance wax on after? I hope someone can help as this is new to me.

Hi John,

 No sealer as the oil has to penetrate the wood. 2 or 3 coats apparantly does the job.

I have used a different brand to yours and never used or needed sanding sealer it dries very quickly and you can apply 2 or 3 coats in a day as for wax I have never found the need for it but it depends if you have the satin or gloss finish and what finish you want hope this helps John I cant give any more info as I'm of for a triple heart bypass in a few hours please let me know how you get on in a few weeks signing of for now Woody

Purely for the record the Daventry Show is Woodworks and is a worthy successor to Woodex. I think it's a much better name. Much credit all round to Tudor Rose.

Hello Everyone,
                     Thank you all for your advice on the method and use of the Treatex Hardwax Oil So far I have put a couple of coats on the vase

and no sanding sealer it is giving a nice mat sheen one more coat and I think that will give me the finish I require.

Hi John, glad to hear you're happy with how it's working so far ..  Very interesting spinoff from the firms website .. a look at Half Built House and seeing Exeter I had to look ...  the host goes off to Exminster an Toby's Reclamation Yard .. haggles him down to £40 for a very old length of board .. never looked for them the last was there ..  these places can be interesting for Teak headboards/furniture etc .. then it's best go to Auctions and get them there first, cut out the middleman.
