Now this I like, were you aiming for an oriental look or did it just happen? Whatever I am a sucker for anything that resembles it. Everything works with this one, the colour, texturing, the final and the overall shape. Bootiful

Where do you get sharks vertebrae from....don't say a shark.

Deer Antler! Shark Vertebrae!

Andy, you've definitely got out of and then lost the box.

Do I like this, oh yes, more then the Yew & Antler (which I saw first). The form of the vase is just 'right'. The texture/pyro work and colours all working together to make it amazing.

I also normally like to guess where the inspiration came from, the lines (maze like) and curves of the pyro I can see in something in my minds eye, but can't place it.

Oh, I love a puzzle....

Thank you all. Glad it met with approval. I like this one myself.

Pete...the vertebrae came from a beach scavenge. The beach is only 8 mins away in the car, so evening walks after a storm often yield interesting stuff.

John...I can't remember the precise dimensions but it's about 10" tall.

Dragonfly...keep guessing  ;) Glad you like it,

I think the inspiration is Maori, but I may be wrong.

Thank you Mark,

I was trying to see a painting in my minds-eye, not tattoo's - well spotted.

Andy,

It's still stunning - sod the rifle, down to the beach then!

Andy

sorry  :-[ but all of my time is spent reading about other cultures, you could say I am obsessive about it. I research everything from food, ceramics/pottery, rituals, textiles, dance, music, religion, philosophy, etc etc

Bryan

Maori tattoos are the first thing I think of too, but if you look at thier amazing culture you find wood carvings, pottery clothing etc all including similar decoration.

What also made me think it was Maori was the whale vertebrae, the whale is revered by the Maori and is a central part of their culture.

My, Andy, Wow that's one stunning form and finish... as for beach finds a few years back when in Marazion there was a seal washed up, the norm was corks, plastic bottles (no message) drums, pallets, ropes and odd driftwood, beachcombing fun days, once came up with an Oar, at times rollock too.

Happy hunting Bryan, and don't get stuck in the mud.

Shows how wrong I can be LOL. Still think it has an oriental look though I can see the Maori angle now it's mentioned. Whatever the inspiration it's a beauty.
