Thought I would add a close up pic of the texture.

I see grass and an abundance of leaves....it's amazing how two simple types of marks made on the surface of wood can create a picture like that. Strange thing is that even given its simplicity, it is so obviously oriental in its appearance.
I have so much to learn!
Education is important, but wood turning is importanter.

Les, you see an abundance of leaves, I see fronds of bracken overgrowing a flowing river.

All that from a few 'scratches' (I know it's more than that but I'm trying to be simplistic.)
Oh Lord, Lead me not into temptation…

...Oh who am I kidding, follow me, I know a shortcut!

Scratches, what ya talking about, it took me an hour of kicking it around my back yard to achieve this effect. :)

An hour Mark!

I'll get you an old pair of Army boots with the metal studs in the bottom, we'll soon get that down to 5 minutes!

Bryan

I had some of those when I was young as my Grandfather served in the Pack Horse Artillery, Quetta 1926-1929, so when I was old enough he gave me a set of walking/army boots with studs covering the bottom. It was like being on an ice rink as I walked down the pavement, but brilliant for making sparks as I cycled down the hills.  :)

Hi Mark

Just looking at the larger image and I can't tell if you've applied an acrylic sealer or satin finish over the verdigris wax and metallic finish.
I've left mine just buffed with a soft cloth with no further finishing and it seems fine with no residue coming off after the buffing.
Do you have a preference on finishing?

Mark, just what can I add ... is it wood ...   ;D ..  yet again one of your most brilliant pieces kicked out again ..

What else .. Ah ... Your a well deserving Turner or are you now a Wood Artist .. Head hunted by a Gallery .. how many pieces ..  :o ..

Well Done.

With this one there is no finish. I use to finish these with a fine application of acrylic sanding sealer as the sealer tends not to alter the appearance. For my personal taste there is nowt worse than an aged vessel looking like it has a ton of lacquer on it as it then no longer looks like an aged vessel.  :)

Thanks, you know me I like to cover up wood,  :) but it was very bland sycamore.

Artists  :) :) certainly not.

Nine pieces is a bit daunting, but that is how many to fill up the small space I will be allocated, have to get with it as I am a world champion at procrastination.  :)

Thanks again.
