Ebonising
« on: April 17, 2013, 10:37:34 PM »
Hi all,

I have just finished a bowl in hornbeam, I then applied acrylic sanding sealer then ebonising lacquer over the top, I now want to get a nice gloss finish to it, what do you suggest  ???

Regards
Peter

There are many ways the quickest is to use an acrylic gloss lacquer on top of it, a wax polish and buff, or hard wax oil

I'm intrigued, Yew Turn, by the idea of black stains and ebonising, but have never tried it. Rather than hijack this thread, I'll start a new thread going and see what info I can pick up.
Education is important, but wood turning is importanter.

Over ebonising spray I usually use Acrylic gloss lacquer http://www.chestnutproducts.co.uk/results.php?cat=Lacquers

Hi Yew Turn, and welcome to the forum.

Spray gloss lacquer is been suggested and it's a good answer, but... (and don't you hate buts!)

... it kind of depends upon if you want the whole item covered as over-spray will go where you don't want it - so if you only want the ebonised area glossed you'd need to mask off the other area's of your work.

Another solution is a small can of polyurethane gloss varnish.
Oh Lord, Lead me not into temptation…

...Oh who am I kidding, follow me, I know a shortcut!
