Starting with colour

Hi

I would like to start to experiment with adding colour to some of my work but am a little confused with all the products available and what works with what.

If I start with spirit stains, how do I go about applying them? Do I have to seal the wood first and then apply the stain and then what do I seal the stain with. I am guessing you need to pay attention to the correct combinations of waxes, spirit, shellac and acrylic products.

Oh one other what is burnishing cream used for? Is it to just give extra shine?

Any tips gratefully received.

Thanks

Paul

Hi George

The link seems not to work, I have looked through your blog was it a link to the June post on creating a coloured bowl?

Its a very helpful post, is there another one hidden on you blog about spirit stain I should be hunting for?

Thanks

It said I did not have permission to view, I guess you are logged into you blog so you get authorised to view.

Odd, it works fine for me as well.

Works fine now, didn't want others to miss out on an interesting guide. Are the paints you are using acrylics?
