Spalted beech & acrylic
« on: May 03, 2016, 06:49:30 PM »
A couple of bowls, one in sycamore the other spalted beech. Both were textured with acrylic gesso and coloured with acrylic airbrush paints. Then the highlights were sanded back lightly. The blue/purple one then had some lighter colours applied to colour the highlights. The green/blue were left white.

Critique / comments welcome.

The gesso goes straight on to bare wood but after the colours are applied, I put a few coats of satin lacquer on. Once the gesso is fully dry it's pretty hard.

Really like these.  The colours and texture are great and just love the shape of the first one in particular.

Like the upwards drifting of the colours on the first one Paul ... with some nice gentle shading that sets the piece off well.

Paul,

the juxtaposition of the ceramic effect of the exterior to the wooden (I can just see peaking over the rim) inside makes these really different and very appealing.

The effects you've created with the blending of the paint adds that extra dimension.
