The other green oak bowl....
« on: February 19, 2016, 12:21:25 PM »
I posted a pic of this one a while back but only had the one pic from above.  Since then it's gone on a ride all its own and turned itself into quite a delightful curvaceous little thing!  c&c welcome.

This is a perfect example of how the grain will try to straighten out the rings, warping wood. Even when the tree rings are only thin cross sections as in your wings.

And yes, it has turned itself into something even more beautiful.

I really like this bowl , nice form / design , good colours and nice finish , quite organic , it was fortunate that it warped without splitting , and it is probably quite  unique, as in I doubt you will be able to turn an identical one ... ( well I couldn't )... good stuff ! ..

I really do like this piece. It's one of those lucky coincidences where the makers intent and nature interact and create something you couldn't have made, but yet it has beauty.

A striking piece which I really like. I have a vision of members of the public viewing this and wondering how the heck you turned it!

The colours of the wood and the natural shrinkage really work on another finely turned piece :)

Nice work Chris

I have a vision of members of the public viewing this and wondering how the heck you turned it!  I tell them I used the new Sorby 'curved wing' tool.....

The movement has really done this piece justice..... adding a very natural look to it.
