Oriental vase Mk 2
« on: January 17, 2016, 12:29:27 PM »
Amazing how much difference just a little change in shape can make. This one is in oak and is slightly heavier looking than the first one.

There is lots that make this likeable, I think the wood is the first one. The vertical grain gives the impression of wooden staves, making it look bigger than it is.

The handle with the loose fibres hanging below the connections give it a used/frayed look, the knots around the length are a clever addition, an unusual point of added interest..

And the pyro work, immediately make you think 'oriental'.

I agree, this is another lovely piece. Strange, how so many of us find the realistic depiction of bamboo so charming. But, there it is, and I like it a lot.
