Hi
Has anyone here made their own 'Longworth Chuck', if so what fittings did you use to hold the bowl - rubbers etc.

Hello, Brian I made one a few years ago on the MDF faceplate I used Nutserts the the rubbers were door buffers/stops if you use these get the White ones the black ones mark the wood. Regards John

Brian,
I also made of from MDF, I used white Door stops as work holders.

Thanks for the fast reply - do you find these a little big?

Hi Brian,
I have a set of button jaws for my chuck, so the longworth is for pieces that exceed the size capability of them. I wanted something quite substantial to retain whatever I mounted on it.
Don't forget for the same speed of rotation a greater radius will give you a greater radial velocity.

Brian you can get smaller ones if you shop around.Regards John

Hello Brian,
although I have not made a Longworth chuck I have made some buttons for my cole jaws. I used polypropelene chopping boards which turn nicely on the lathe and so far have had the strength to hold anything I have wanted it to.

John
Very please and so simple to make, I was going to buy one from the USA as I failed to find a supplier in the UK - I am now going to make a much larger one using nylon sheet for larger bowls. I will keep you posted.
