Title: Wall art
Post by: ken rodgers on March 29, 2022, 06:19:48 PM
Seeing as there is very little activity of members work of late here is my latest.
 Feed back/ comments welcomed.
Material is oak 300mm x 300 mm with a few scattered spots of burr. The outer rim has been textured by a mini chain saw disc, scorched and spirit
stained with final coat of lacquer.
The centre is coloured with acrylic paint

Hi Ken I like the turning and texturing but I think the Red colour for the centre makes it look like a Bulls Eye only my personal taste.

Hi John,
Thanks for your comments.
I did try various shades of green, blue and yellow on a scrap piece of oak but did not look very exiting to me, so settled on red. Colour is always a personal preference.

Ken
Ps I notice that posts on the galley page do not generate many reply’s to the number of views presently.

Have you thought of doing these but making the various 'discs' off-centre? Solves the bulls eye effect and adds interest.

Agreed. Gold leaf might look nicer and easily added?

Hi Peter
Thanks for the link to your gallery, this is the first time I have looked at it. You have an amazing number of quality turning on there.
It is nice to see other people’s work that shows what can be achieved.
I agree it does not need to be round, I think natural edges/ holes and splits and be incorporated and enhance a piece of work.
Regards
Ken
