I recently noticed on social media that the latest Nova chuck now tightens the same way as other wood turning scroll chucks - IE righty tighty, lefty loosey! I thought folks may like to know. ;)
-
That'd confuse me as I've been using Nova for over a decade LOL always take mine to demos hoping they wil fit the club lathes

I wonder if an old lefty tighty Nova could be converted to a righty tighty by fitting a new scroll wheel? The jaws look identical. The scroll is available as a spare part.

I used to run a Nova and a Sorby (jaws are compatible) so needed to know which chuck was on especially when removing from a fragile mortice! Long live the confusion ;D

Bill21. You would need to change the jaw carriers as will as the scroll ring.
-
Just a thought, how about a light spay of Red aerosol paint on the Key slot as a warning just to remind you that its a left to tight action. Such a very small amount would not affect the balance of the chuck I would presume but would give a visual reminder.

I have a variety of different chucks, so use us permanent marker and draw an arrow indicating the 'Tightening direction' on each.
-
All my chucks operate in the same direction. No way I would have bought a Nova chuck before they complied with convention.
-
I get confused enough with having 4 different chuck keys!
-
That's interesting news for woodturning enthusiasts! It's great to see Nova addressing one of the main differences between their previous chucks and other popular scroll chucks like the Vicmarc and Oneway.

Best way would be tighty righty and loose lefty ;D
