Title: New Project

I have just started a new project on my Blog http://wwwartistry-in-wood.blogspot.com/ it will be quite a bit of work so will be done in stages
The first stage is now completed and on Blog if you are interested

Wow !!! Fantastic work there George. I really like this as a garden feature and just wish I had just an ounce of your creative thinking.

Hi Steve this one will not be a garden feature it will be a wall hanging Sculpture
Did you see the last one I did it is on my Blog before the latest one that is a Garden Sculpture

Thank you Steve I am making molds for pewter made 13 up to now you seem to be the only one interested .

George, I'm sure others, like me, have read your work-in-progress and perhaps, like me, prefer to see the finished item before commenting. Often I haven't time to comment, I take a few moments to read posts but haven't the time right there-and-then to write a comment. Besides, I find it hard to judge a work in progress, but when the work is finished I bet you will get lots of comments. Having seen the wide range of items you have designed on your website, I'm looking forward to seeing it when it is completed. Keep up the good work :)

My intention with this was to create a frame outside of the ply with an upstand of 1/4 inch that is now done.
Then I was going to place Pewter circles random into what is now like a tray fill it with Resin then sand it all off level,
I am now wondering whether to paint the inside of the tray and stick the circles inside and not fill with resin.
This might give a more 3D effect what do you think .
For them that have not been following my Blog WIP there is a picture below to show where I am at.
I have also cast the Pewter circles and whatever decision I make will effect how i finish them

Prefer the idea of having the 3d effect. Problem is it is difficult to visualise so might work with resin.

I think i will try the 3D effect then I can always add resin if i think it would look better

                I have just looked at your latest piece on your Blog I can not wait to see the finished piece you must be congratulated in the amount of work you are putting in on this project and to also do all the WIP pictures etc.

Thank you John I did a bit on it today and will do some more tomorrow so keep watching .
I do not give up on things even if if they dont go as I expected.I will finish it and if I dont like it I will scrap it.
If it all goes wrong and I dont like it I will still post it all on my Blog and the finished piece on here as it is no shame for things to go wrong sometimes it means at least you are trying.
I think if more people put their failures up on Forum's as well as their successes it would inspire others never to give up

I haven't got a drum sander so all my pewter work has to be done on the lathe, but I feel your pain with this one! It can be a very frustrating material!

If I put all my failures up on here I'd probably break the internet. ;)

Hi Percy

Most is done on the Lathe but if you follow the blog on this one you will see the advantage of the drum sander but it is costing a fortune in abrasive.The real advantage will be when all the pewter is in place and the resin hardened and I can sand the whole thing flush.
One thing is for certain nobody will ever pay me for the time and materials on this one LOL

The cost of the Pewter and the Resin not to mention my time means I will probably have to sell it at a loss or keep it

Looking forward to seeing how it turns out. Not done a lot of resin work myself, but have helped a friend who makes river tables, so I know how tricky it can be to work with, without it all leaking out onto the floor to give the worlds most expensive puddle. In the last photo the frame looks tilted a little. Is this on purpose to increase the depth and colour of the resin on one side?
The best thing about sharing this stuff is it gives others inspiration and ideas for work - thanks George

Hello Percy

According to my level it is spot on but I am keeping a close watch on it for a couple of hours.
It is so thin it would not have to be far out to run over the side
I think it is probably the way I have taken the pic
