This is part of a length of wood I was given by a friend. No idea what it is but knowing him could be some exotic . Cuts easily and cleanly especially with a skew, no particularly distinctive smell. finishes well. Any ideas please as I like to name the woods on things that I sell.

I can't help with the question but the wood does look interesting and also would like to know what it is. The photos are not that good have you got any better ones

Just a couple of quick snapshots. I'll see if I can get a couple of better ones later.

looks like one of the berlinia species pete but i need a sanded endgrain photo to make sure.
you can compare it yourself if you like.

Mine is a paler base wood and the veis are reddish brown. Pretty heavy as well. I know wood can vary a lot though. I'll sand some end grain for you tomorrow Steve and see if that helps. My source was always getting hold of obscure woods and often had sample from John Boddy so coulsd easily be the berlinia though that seems to be a fairly unusual and rare wood.
