Title: The Tower
Post by: Derek on March 24, 2018, 10:35:24 AM
It stands 12" tall and at it's widest is 3 1/4" The main tower is Ash and the bowl section is Field Maple with the eye in Holly. The top was textured on the outside using a hanging type multi-tool with a small metal cut off disc in the edge.
Ebonising spray was used for the black and airbrush gold paint for the inner surface over the ebonising spray as it is the best effect when done that way. I added some decorative copper nails around the base to add something to a very plain support.
The eye again ebonising spray after using a pyrography machine for the pattern then a gold gilt cream rubbed in. Once it was fully assembled a coat of micro-crystalline wax applied for protection as this is for decoration only so will not be handled a great deal.

C & C welcome

Maybe not to everyone' s taste.. But it is certainly ours ..... Every part is well done and finished , using the see through
tube really sets it all off almost as if the eye is floating ...  with every thing flowing  together .. Very Well Done
 Like It A Lot.
 Kind Regards Tony di

I must admit that when I opened this thread, just the text was visible on my screen, so I read it before scrolling down to the images. The text made me wonder what exactly I was going to be looking at, but when I reached the images I was delighted by them. Well done!

Now we know why Derek's cutting the trees down in the garden, he's going to put the tower in it  ;D

I'm not sure how you keep thinking these things up Derek (you must have a strange mind) but its good to see the end result.
Well done on taking your work in a different direction and trying something out of the norm. Les

Thank you Georg, Les and Les
Not sure what is next depends on what I see to give me ideas. Here is a better photo of the texture.

DING-DONG Derek

To me you are now truly traveling down the dark path of woodturning art  :) :) :)

As Di & Tony have said not going to be everybody's cup of tea!

Great idea and great finish. Love it!

I guess we will see in the flesh next meeting.

All the best

Ed

Middle Earth comes to Canterbury

I like this Derek, as I said elsewhere. It tells a story.

I think it safe to say this is one of those items that steps a little off of the normal beaten track.

You've done very well in your interpretation of the Tower of Sauron, and the method used to give the floating eye really works and brings the effect to life.

Great work, well done.
