Title: Milk or not
Post by: The Bowler Hatted Turner on February 26, 2018, 04:31:20 PM
Totally off topic now, just come in from one of the coldest days in the workshop I have ever know (this year at least) and made a cup of hot Bovril. Now the question is do you drink your hot Bovril with milk or not?

You see this is a throwback to my childhood. In the winter we would have Bovril to drink if we had been out in the snow (the first time I can recall is the winter of '62) but mother would put a drop of milk in the kid's drinks. I only thought about it today because of the cold weather, I still have a mug of Bovril on cold days and I still have a drop of milk in it, strange what you think of when the cold reaches your brain!!

Definitely no milk, I can just about remember the winter of 62. The snow was deeper that I was at the time, we used to go swimming in school and a cup of Bovril afterwards. I can't imagine what it would have been like with milk in it :( oh and a packet of OXO Chipmunk crisps :)

My life is so full at the moment that once Masterchef had finished last night I forced myself to research Bovril, I will not bore you with all the details here but the Royal Navy used to serve it during the war with a tot od sherry in it. Now that I will have to try........one day.

Pete, Marmite is the nectar of the Gods (along with Yorkshire tea and Thatchers Gold) and Marmite chocolate is on ration along with Toblerone!   ;D

We'll have to agree to differ on those I'm afraid lol. Can't even stand the smell of marmite, don't drink tea at all and the only  cider I like is the decent farmhouse ciders.

The next thing one of you guys will be owning up to is having sugar on your porridge!! (Instead of salt!)  :)

I used to have a little drop of whisky on mine. And as for Marmite, oh yes please! Lashings of it on freshly toasted crumpets.

No, not milk.

But it does take me back, you used to get a 'Beef Extract' drink in your Army ration packs.

Ah sweet memories of the 24hr rat pack. "c" rations were best, they came with a curry.

I hated the Chicken Supreme pack. and the bar of chocolate always went down a treat as well as the tube of condenced milk

I hope my wife doesn't get too cold clearing the snow from the path to the workshop tomorrow morning, she's got a cold already, might have to make her a drink of Bovril. (with milk in).( only joking....she doesn't like Bovril)

My shovel is in the furthest shed from the house and my wife will not get it for me so I can clean a path to the workshop how mean is that, it is not as though I am asking her to clear snow as well. ::)
