Title: Nova Comet II Variable Speed Midi Lathe or Jet JWL-1221VS
Post by: DawnHopley on February 07, 2017, 11:24:05 AM
Does anybody on here own a Nova Comet II lathe and if yes, what are your thoughts.

I've looked  at a few reviews on Youtube etc. and am thinking of getting one to replace my Axminster AWVSL that I use for demonstrations and small stuff.

If not the Comet, then maybe a Jet JWL-1221VS ??? ??? ???

Dawn,
We have a Nova Comet II at our club as well as two Jet 1014 and a Jet 1015VS, I have no real negatives with regards to the Nova but would go for a Jet every time as they are less 'plastic' looking.
I also have a 1015VS at home which replaced my 1014 as an upgrade.
Hope this helps.
Dave

I have a jet 1221vs and it's a great machine. It has handled everything I have chucked at it, including wet turning half logs of spalted beech over 6" thick for bowl blanks. The extra wide beds make a difference here, and the variable speed is very useful.

It's light enough to transport easily and mounts on a portable workbench ok.

Regards

Eddie

Thanks for all the advice.

Having looked at the Jet JWL-1221VS specs I kind of decided to go for one .... but then spotted the weight!

Apparently is weighs 50kg?

My existing lathe is around 35kg and I can only just about manage that on my own. Another 15kg would be a killer.
