Title: Bonsai
Post by: georg on June 13, 2014, 08:59:58 PM

A one off piece Just for me Named SHARI......with a long stretch of the imagination and taken very loosely is Deadwood on the trunk
of a tree(it would be Jin on the branch) .....Its a technique used in Bonsai Art to age a tree most often done on evergreen trees not
so often on deciduous trees.....after 30 plus years of keeping healthy Bonsais over the last 2 years its been a struggle to keep this one
and a couple of others alive (I failed )
IT was a Japanese Acer ....Bark removed and bleached.....Planted on a plinth with a Japanese Rice Bowl and Chop sticks......Hope I have copied the symbols right with a lorra lorra luck they should read Tony..Tonii and Diane..Daian ( the wonders of google
Tony turned the bowl and added the pewter rim it was then hot wire textured and stained red

Hi Diane & Tony,
What can I say other than Fabulous Your collaboration work is wonderful you both seem to work so well together I think this is a piece that anyone would love to own.

It sill amazes me how you both come up with these ideas. ;D ;D ;D

                                                                    Regards John

This is a lovely piece with a very clever combination and positioning of pieces.
Use a less 'Japanese' table and it doesn't work
Face the tree in the other direction and it doesn't work.

How far ahead do you actually plan it all ?

I don't know who first said it, but this work is the epitome of the expression,

Simplicity is the art of perfection.

Thank You John........The tree was a present and for sentimental reasons could not throw it on the compost.
at least I can still view it even if it has lost its beautiful folage
    Kind Regards Di and Tony

Thank You.....Mark......Eric......Ed....Your positive comments are much appreciated

Thank You Graham......For This Piece  we got the original idea after discussing what to do with the tree...too small to turn and its
been along road to the finished piece...Tony made the components...the bowl was too small so I got him to make another one
then worked on the colour to contrast......we left the tree white with no finish to keep it white....then spent days playing
at jigsaws until I got the proportions and positions right.   Hope this makes sense

Which only goes to show how hard it is to make something look so right.

To echo Graham, should it not have been for the Acer and it's demise, we'd not see the birth of a new beginning nor this the new creation ... "lest a seed dies it will not bring forth" .. it has and will have great sentiment for many more years to come as a stunning piece.

Cheers  David
