Title: Walk then run!
Post by: myatt1972 on April 02, 2011, 09:54:03 PM
I went to my first meeting of the MSWA on friday, a very friendly bunch I must say.
Paul Hannaby was demonstrating and I was blown away with his talent and goblets!
So full of inspiration today I ......................................

Made an eggcup  ;D
Well, walk then run I say.

Not sure about the shape but very pleased with the finish.
Made from an offcut of an ash boat pole.

Glad you had a good time at MSWA.

Egg cups are a good project, and especially good when you get to use them at home.

I went through an egg cup phase a while ago, and turned lots of the little things, trying to "update" them. I never did find a design I wanted to work on. Maybe I'll have another try now I've seen yours.

Good effort, especially as it's re-cycled wood. And the finish does look good.

Yours is far far better than mine, as I went with a much thinner stem, and then realised I should of hollowed out the other end first   ;D

Haven't even tried to turn the top half, as I am positive it would break, oh well, lesson learnt

Hi Keith,

Egg-cellent Eggcup, nice clean cuts and finish, next the Egg, which was the first I'd gone for some years ago, (called skew practise) so I've to catch up on the cup, will have to try for that as well as the coloured vase, which is needed for the next MSWA...   I'll show my cup, if you show your's..   ;D..

I'll add to that of Paul, a very interesting, informative, well done, an excellent demonstration on 2 forms of goblets and easy formed twists to a stem..  not a sign of being under pressure..    8) ...    Thank you,  Paul.

Hi Keith,
The egg cup looks good, the next challenge is to make one with a stem, then you're in to goblet territory proper!  ;)

Hi David,
I'm glad you enjoyed the demo as much as I did. The only pressure was getting through Birmingham early enough to miss the worst of the rush hour but I managed that bit ok!

As I mentioned in the demo, there are some instructions and pics on my website at http://www.hannaby.com/turn-a-goblet.html (http://www.hannaby.com/turn-a-goblet.html)
