Hi all,
my first studyof "Sphere-box in a plank". Only to open if the sphere is vertically.
Therefore the box isn't half and half. The separation is a little bit displaced. So
the greater part holds the sphere in the hole. The diameter of the hole is a little bit
smaller then the diameter of the box. You must work very exactly.

... You must work very exactly.
... I think you're becoming the master of understatement Jo.
Another tangent for you to chase down. It looks fantastic, how tall is it please and it looks like the board is Yew(?) what it the sphere made from please.

Hi dr4g0nfly,
thanks for your answer.
The sphere is from ebony and has a diameter of 76mm. The stand is from
I think "japanischer Perlschnurbaum" (Sophora japonica), H= 35cm. The internal shape of the
hole must be concave.
Thanks Jo
