Been a while since I did any gold leaf so decided to do some for the shows this year. A couple of little oak burr bowls with gilt leaf and a couple of little rosewood bowls with a metalic leaf.

The oak burr pots work well for me; there's a great contrast between the rugged oak on the edge and the gold within.

Nice ones Pete, sometimes I see stuff where the leaf application looks quite poor and it detracts from the overall quality of the piece. These, however look good. I particularly like the contrast of the oak burr against the leaf (or vice versa)

Thanks both. Hsven't done any gilding fpr about 5 years so had to stop and think. I went over the inside of the burrs with car body filler then sanded back as it was so full of pits. Still ended up with some small ones but ovderall they have come out not too bad. Rosewood was much easier LOL.

Pete, sorry late to comment on these, I love the juxtaposition between the cragginess of the burr and the high gloss of the gold leaf. I hope they were well received by your customers.
A question if I may, what adhesive do you use. The back of my mind says there was some sort of seize used once upon a time, but no idea of anything about it.

I also seemed to have missed this as well. Like both of these, especially the second one.
With the internal finish of you say metal leaf is this supplied as the photo portrays it as though it looks like metal that has been heated.

Thank you both. The adhesive is indeed size, I use an acrylic one but there are other types as well. The metallic leaf is heat treated wgen rolled apparently and there are dozens of different types. I have a sample book of them and most don't appeal but this one did so I experimented. Seems to work as all these sold at our show at Wisley so have doine another half dozen.

Pete ,
Sorry I missed these but on holiday and never caught up
I like these, especially the gold.
I'm not really taken by the fancy 'metallic' leaves even when I saw them demonstrated recently
I'm still clumsy with leaf but having burr helps a lot
Kind regards
