Title: Mallee burr

Work was stopped on the bungalow today my lathe was beckoning me and it won result a Mallee burr bowl I have removed all the bark which took twice as long as turning it because I think that Mallee in one of the few woods that look better without the bark and one of the worst woods for removing it because it has some very sharp spikes sticking up underneath it is finished with sanding sealer and past wax enjoy it is 12" long x 8" wide x 2 1/2" tall

im not one for exotics but  is some thing i have wanted to try

Beautiful turning on a stunning piece of wood.

Well done - now back to the bungalow!

I picked the bark off of one of these once - I know how hard it is.

Woody, that was a day well spent, beautiful piece, wonderful detail, well turned and finished.

A splendid piece of wood, very well turned.
Reminds me of when I tried to use a bowl saver on a similar piece, and bent the the saver. So especially well done.

Thank you gentlemen for you kind words I still have a few of these burrs left to turn yet one good one with no bark LOL and one which will need two small bowls turned in the one burr IF I CAN MANAGE IT

Good one Woody! The shape and form really brings the colour of the Mallee out. The flowing lines sure give it a air of elegance.
