Title: 9" burr bowl

Fresh of the lathe this morning I think it is a Chestnut burr but I'm not completely sure at first I thought it was elm but as soon as I cut it I changed my mind it is 9" wide and from 1 1/2" to 3 1/2" tall so far it has had one coat of oil and is still wet that is why it is standing on a nail board a lot of the bark just fell of but the rest took about 30min to pick of enjoy personally I love it and may keep it for a while

Hi Woody....that's a beauty and I certainly agree with you that it looks like a piece of chestnut. I've worked tons of the stuff, mostly for reproductionn furniture for museums, and the colour & grain look right.

Woody,

It looks great, but I do feel a bit queasy looking at this, the light colour with darker markings, the wet look in parts (wet oil) it looks almost organic.

O.M.. Woody, just has to be the most beautiful piece of burr and you've done it justice, lovely form and finish so far.

Hi Woody

A lovely example,well executed,it's nice to see a pale piece of timber with plenty of character.
I love burrs but never get the chance to get my hands on one.
