Title: Last piece in the series .........for the moment.
Post by: bodrighywood on August 21, 2013, 10:35:10 AM
This is the last one of these until at least after the Oak Fair on Saturday. This one is monkey puzzle, is 200mm diameter, 130mm tall, and the collar and plug are purple heart. The brass finial is shaped rod and is 90mm long (and needs adjusting, just seem it in the photo LOL) The base is a double oak burr that has been cleaned and burnished and is 450mm long. Originally I had intended on having something on the other burr but it doesn't look right, seems much better on it's own.
Comments critique etc welcome as always.

Aside from the beauty of this form and the amazing shape and graining seen from the top...

I love the natural presentation on the burr!

It really highlights the beauty of the form...

Oh if only... I tell myself, One day boy, one day!!  ;)

Pete,

you're right, the fact that the empty burr area is higher settles the eye happily.

And a nice job on the Monkey Puzzle as well.

Hi Pete,
I came back to have another look, and wondered what I would do differently (apart from making bowls out of the burr ;D)
The only thing I could think of was turn the brass thinner in the middle and cut the ends on a slight splay. Otherwise I wouldn't change a thing.
Still well done.

Pete, yet another nice piece, the one thing the rod just lacks something, a little detail maybe.

Hope the Oak Fair went well, could be turning out a few more.
