This began when a large Walnut tree (trunk 700 mm diameter) was felled at a farm near Bovingdon, Herts. The tree was felled and cut up for firewood by tree-surgeons in March-April 2016. I was invited to view the result on the 9th July by which time although some of the wood had degraded, it was still a woodturners paradise with a lot of fantastic pieces. This is what happened to one I salvaged.

A stunning piece of flame-crotch, Tim. It never ceases to amaze me that o many tree surgeons fail to appreciate the potential value of the timber that they condemn to the fire wood pile!

Tim this is a very nice bowl, beautiful figure and looks to be nicely finished. The WinP was nice too.
Thankyou

Thank you everyone for your kind comments. Yes that Walnut would all have gone up in smoke if it hadn't been for my wife Trish being a riding friend of the farmer's wife, who happened to mention that they had had a large Walnut tree felled...

Love the 'Flame' from the crotch, good save from the firewood pile.
