Many of the natural edged bowls which I make are reminiscent of the views I see when I am able to get out into the hills as a walker, skier or driver. I was taken with the idea of populating the hills with some of the people I see and meet, using 1 : 148 scale model people and vehicles made for railway modellers. This ties in with a themed event, "On the edge", at a local shop and gallery.
Best wishes and stay safe,
John

Neat idea John. Likje the 'thinking outside the box' or rather outside the bowl.

Like them did anyone say to you that woodturning was a slippy slope now you know what they meant ;D
-
Woodturning has obviously left me with a few rough edges as well ;D

Different.

Where did you find the models? 1:200?

Hello Will Stewart,
I googled N gauge model people and vehicles. There are quite a few dedicated railway modellers shops which came up. As originally stated they are 1:148 scale which makes an average adult 9mm tall.

John - thanks! Obviously I have been out of model railways too long!

I love these, John - so very reminiscent of rolling downland....and great way to decorate a rim!

Not actually woodturning but inspired by this - a picture frame with model cyclists riding round the edge (& a pic of my son and friends where I have blanked out the faces). The wood is beech and the design protects the models a bit.
A great idea and I have more models and a piece of wood drying for a future bowl
