Title: Ash Platter - first of 3
Post by: Bryan Milham on October 07, 2012, 02:24:21 PM
Hi Guy's, this is an Ash Platter I'm working on, sanded but not yet polished or oiled (can't decide).

It's part of a Ash plank I purchased for the olive running through it, and am taking 3 platters out of. So hopefully the grain will run (sort of) concurrently. Kind of like a Triptych. Though I'd be lucky to sell them as a set!

It's 340mm wide by 60mm High.

Critiques and comments as you will please.

Hi dr4gOnfly,
Olive ash is a favourite of mine and I think you have done this piece justice. I agree with woody on the finish.

Oh Bryan, as Ash goes I'm GREEN with Envy ...   :D , not alot nicer than a beautiful piece of it, love this one.

What's the bit just in view at 3 o'clock bottom picture, stay shaving ..  ;) .

Large pieces of mine in Ash, I oil for the reason of possible use.

Two more to go.

Cheers    David

David, I'll post another picture when they are all three platters finished, then you can go green if you want.

Yes I saw it's beauty when I bought it and hoped for the effect I'm getting. Truthfully and in hindsight to have done them as a real Triptych I should have made them into squares and just turned the dish into it - ah well never mind, there's always another time.

The thing peeking at 3 o'clock, I needed to prop the platter up. It's the driftwood from the Banksia free-form, it was there and available, what can I say!
