First photos of some Sumac - very soft and open grained but some lovely natural colour. Finished with oil.

As you say beautiful! How soft is it?  does it vary much within the piece?

Hi Will  Soft - but easily worked when wet as it is now - but the sap is very thick and sticky - this was going to be natural edged but the edge started to come off as it was so wet and sticky.

Watch out for the pith - it is as soft as butter! I had a piece turned out of sumac, and when I sanded it the pith wore away about a centimetre below the surrounding wood.
