Hi Rod.

You've created a very nice piece, flowing form and I like the litle texturing to the base very classical, with the design of the top, to carry the detail better, I'd wonder if it may of been better for the wall to have been thinner, it's a maybe sort of idea ..

Cheers for sharing.

Hi Rod...I'm with David on this one. The fine, flame-like shapes at the top of the vase are made to look a bit heavy by the thickness of the rim, which results in them looking a bit 'stiff'. If they'd been much thinner, then the flame shapes might have been more 'alive'. Having said all that, I like the overall shape and especially the detail at the bottom. The colour of the wood seem much lighter in the close-up of the bottom of the vase and resembles the cherry that I've got in stock. I'm guessing that this is closer to the real colour of the wood than the first two photos suggest.

Strange, I posted a reply but don't see it here, trying again...

Les, I appear to be in a minority but I'm not too struck by the shape.

The carving detail is interesting. I've seen similar before but it was heavilly burnt/chard before the finishing cuts, to give the effect of a piece of rescued, burnt or lightning struck wood. The light (I think) charing you have applied is too little and so gives a pale inconclusive effect that does not carry through to the final piece very well.
