Title: Sycamore lamp
Post by: z3ddie on June 29, 2015, 06:30:59 PM
No pack drill - just followed the grain to give me the shape - I personally love the way the grain gave me the shape of the lamp.
Finished with friction polish
C&C welcome.

That is actually quite a pleasing shape. It doesn't have much of a WOW effect, but I can see this blending very nicely into a living room. And there's something to be said for that, too.

Haha - cheers Eric! I think I have found my 'style' as I love retro and Art Deco forms and loosely base my lamps on it - if nothing else it can be a handy weapon!

yep, nice burglar retardant ;D,I like lamps and vases with bases that make them less vulnerable to falling over in a puff of wind or when wifey dusts, and then says sorry it fell over and broke.

I'm not normally a fan of turnings that have been left to develop themselves (see what the tools/wood make) but I think you must have had a little input to this as it is pleasing to the eye and sits will as a lamp stand.

With this one you can't quite see but there is a centre pattern in the wood that gave me the shape - a bit like dress on a lady if you like - anyway it was more than well received by the recipient!
