Title: 2" (sorry 50mm!) sanding discs.
Post by: bertilak on February 20, 2020, 02:45:18 PM
I've just got through my Hermes discs (from APT) and, cheapskate that I am, I've replaced them with some cheaper ones from an online auction site. I've never had a problem with scratches and gouges before, and today I realised that the grading of grit on the discs, or maybe the adhesive they use to stick on the fabric just isn't good enough. I had a gorgeous spalted sycamore conical bowl which looked fine until I oiled it. It looked as though some skaters had been exercising on it. I'd been through the grits as usual but oh dear.....(I said to myself!). I've tried wire wool after getting the oil off with turpentine but I'm not impressed. Just ordered some of the tried and tested Hermes discs...phew.... Has anyone else had similar problems? I know the dictum that you get what you pay for, but I thought abrasive discs were abrasive discs.

I’ve bought cheap ones on the auction site and not had any problems.
