Title: One that didn't work
Post by: bodrighywood on April 11, 2019, 04:05:51 PM
This is an almost exact copy of a chinese vase but as you can see not all things transfer to a different medium. If anyone with bad taste likes it it's for sale LOL.

Pete,

I agree that not all ceramic shapes transfer to a turned wooden medium, I've tried several from my own ceramic collection. I've found the trick is to 'interpret' the shape.

Ceramicists can 'slide' between curves and surfaces and get away with it, wood needs definitive transitions (and I know that you know this). This form is not far off and depending upon the amount of wood available at the foot and Neck, you should be able to get something good out of it.

Print a couple of pictures of it and sit with a pencil, to see what small alterations would work best, you'll be surprised at the result.

Re-post with the modifications sometime please.
