Post by: Lilman2106 on February 05, 2020, 06:36:16 PM
Hello all newbie here only had my lathe about a week but loving it, I’ve been making things from wood for years but never turned anything until a week ago. I hope I can learn lots from this forum.

Welcome, I am sure I am not going to be alone in suggesting you get along to your local club, and also get some training, it can save a lot of frustration to spend a day with a good trainer early on.

I had been searching the forum, but yes I clicked the word here as it was highlighted to say it was a link to a website. I’ve find 2 clubs near me but the one I would be able to attend is a bit too far away  :( the other I can’t make it to because of time constraints. Looks like YouTube will be my new best friend lol.

if you tell us where you are based there might be someone in the vicinity willing to take you under their wing.
Beware of copying stuff from You Tube. There is no one filtering the content and some of it will just lead you up unwise paths while some is just downright dangerous.
Welcome to woody addiction, by the way
Brian

Thanks Brian, by the way I’m Paul and I’m from Kingswinford in the West Midlands. I have been wood working for ages but never turned anything until recently and my god I love it, but would love to learn how to do it better so I can sell my wears at a local craft fair which I attend though out the year with my other wood crafts and gifts.

Hi john and thanks the info, but unfortunately I have other commitments on Thursdays which will stop me from attending 😐. Likes like reading lots of books and asking questions on here.
