Radio 4 Storybook.  Was told about this by a friend this morning.  Just listening to the first episode, sounds excellent.

Bit of a late reply as Though I missed the programme I happened to be given the book ( by Robert Penn) for Christmas.

It's very readable with a lot of information on traditional skills and timber with some historical background.
