Had a go at carving a platter a couple of months back and wasn't thrilled with the result. With a fer suggestions and a bit of time to think about this is mark 2.
Platter is 420 mm diameter, finished with Rustins Danish and given a light polish with eee a week later.
I feel much happier with this one, what do you think.

I like this a lot, just looks "right" to me.

We can all get a good finish on our turned work if we take the trouble, but getting he same high quality of finish on carved work takes the finishing skills to a higher level and (I'm sure) involves a great deal of laborious work. A job very well done.

Thanks Lazurus and Les.
There is a fair bit of wirk in finishing the carving. Most of us know what needs to be done, it is just a matter of putting the time in. I could have said "finished with elbow grease".

Tony,
you give a diameter but not a depth, and it looks thin. You've made a great job out of not a lot of something - great job

Lovely piece simple design with the carving but sets it off just right

Thanks Dragonfly, Georg and Derek.
Depth id 20mm.
In designing this piece I was aiming for a shape that is appealing both visually and to the touch. The finish from the Danish Oil (sanded to 1000 grit) does accentuate this.
