Title: Olive Root Bowl

Sorry for those of you that have seen this on FB I use FB to see if the likes give the form a vote but consider the C&C's on here valuable.

Olive root 340mm x 130mm finished with Microcrystal wax

Ed, very natural and non functional (won't hold water) piece, must be Artistic form, need I say very impressive, Classic form, It's a like it from me.

Not the easiest of turnings, one small almost unnoticeable bump on the inside, yet still well done and finished nicely.

Hi Ed...that must have been a good, hefty lump of timber when you started and it's a darned fine piece that you've finished with. I can't see the bump that David refers to - looks fine to me.

Thank you for the comments, there is a little bump starting to form at about 11 o'clock with a few small splits in the third picture, you have a sharp eye David  :)

It's not a tooling thing I turn this Olive bowl wet and let it dry for 3 or 4 weeks then just finished the turning and oiled and waxed it.

Now it will finish drying and a few natural ripples and small splits will hopefully appear to add to it's finish.

This is a very striking and powerful piece, not something you could ignore. At the moment I cannot decide if I like it or not :)
Which Facebook group are you using ? ( or is it your own page ? )

     Hi ED ......Extremely nice bowl you have done there. Like the chunky look and the soft mellow colour. A very striking
                    and pleasing on the eye piece. We have looked on your forum and the piece looks even better there

You've enabled the great finish you can get on olive and the truly amazing grain colours and shapes to sit against the natural voids, in-growing bark and the strong shape you've shaped to create a great looking bowl.

It's my favorite piece I've turned to date and has set my mind to follow the path of natural turning, I love what unfolds in front of your eyes and so design becomes more off the cuff so you are making the most of what you get.

I did not fine much other than a bit of deep embedded mud, I spent a couple of hours with the power washer & chainsaw first.  :)
