Title: Polyurethane wanted
Post by: Lazurus on September 15, 2017, 09:18:40 AM
Can any one suggest a supplier of polyurethane blocks, I need to turn some drive arbor's to hold spheres, the commercial offerings seem very expensive for what they are.

Save your money and time, I use blocks of softwood - cheap and easy to cut.

Yes I think that maybe the best idea having seen some online prices, just wanted something that wouldn't mark the spheres, so I guess I could just use the old fashioned line it with paper towel system......

I used 40mm dia nylon rod for the tailstock end as I threaded it to fit the live Centre and was worried about movement if I used a wooden one. Just use wood on the headstock .
Cheers

what size spheres?

i would just use timber and put some adhesive rubber or rubbery foam on it.

Had a play around over the weekend, yes just some padded foam on a turned cup worked fine, 150mm down to 50mm all held a treat...... pennies saved!
