Title: Screws needed.
Post by: bodrighywood on July 29, 2017, 05:06:16 PM
I don't know how but the two screws that clamp the top pulley on my axminster lathe have dropped out resulting in the pulley being pushed against the casing when I have spindle work between centres. I contacted axminster but they apparently don't have them. They said they will see if they can source them for me but have heard nothing back yet and as I use the lathe a lot for smaller work as well as demos I would like to try and get them ASAP. I haven't a clue what thread they are so if anyone can help with advice info etc I'd be grateful. Attached photo shows the offending empty sockets. The screws are allen key bolts that gp directly into the holes

I've got a collection of small set screws and grub screws....any chance you could try a few different bolts/set screws into the hole to see what thread it is, then I can look to see if I've got what you need.

I have tried a couple that I have to try amd seee what the thread is but no luck yet. It's a common enough lathe, Trade  AT1416VS so hopefully someone will know. I was surprised that Axminster don't have them to be honest. If someone comes back with the thread I might take you up though Les, thanks.

Hi
Did you buy the lathe new? With it should have come a lathe manual listed are all the parts
Etc .
You should find the exact type of grub screw the machine builder used  it could be a point ,flat btm etc
If you have to buy some use stainless steel the chemical black ones may react with the aluminium.
